There’s just too much to say about the Loire Valley, known as the garden of France. The Loire River is France’s longest river, over 600 miles long, and it cuts right through the center of the country.

It will take several posts to squeeze out what I experienced on my trip last week. I hope you were able to follow some of this on Oliver’s France Facebook.

Here are a few visual teasers to pique your interest in this varied and wonderful region. It’s so close to Paris that you could easily combine a Paris/Loire vacation with, for example, a week at each or five days at each. It’s fully do-able, with train travel as short as 90 minutes. You can start in Tours, which is central to many of the sites you’ll want to see…including castles, nature, cliff dwellings, bike tours, mushroom farms, vineyard tours, and more.
